Theme

Our theme will be “Jesus to the Rescue.” At last year’s VBS we looked at the story of creation told in Genesis 1. This year, we’ll continue with looking at the succeeding stories in Genesis, which begin with the Garden of Eden account in chapter 2. In chapter 3, we have the fall of Adam and Eve; in chapter four, the killing of Abel by his brother Cain; in chapters 6-9, we have the story of the Noah’s ark; and finally, in chapter 10, we have the story of the tower of Babel. These somewhat somber stories all point to the need for a redeemer and savior—hence, our theme, Jesus to the Rescue. Jesus comes to restore us to fellowship with God after the fall. He comes to rescue us from malice and hatred and to restore us to friendship with one another in brotherly affection and love. He comes to rescue us from impure hearts and to wash us and make us new. Finally, he comes to our rescue us from building towers to make a name for ourselves, and to tell us who we truly are as dearly loved children of God. It should be a great week of talking about these important stories from the Bible, and why Jesus coming to our rescue is so important.
